Let's strike!
Today it's my birthday and today the railway strikes.
It's amazing to see the number of strikes occur every year in France. Today it's the railway, yesterday it was the gaz and electricity company. I haven?t done the study though, but you know what, I will start counting for 2004. Last year was marked with some important strikes: the tobacconists, the contract workers in show business, the post workers, public hospitals, teachers, France Télécom, Air France, French diplomates, etc...Each with their own demand. But it is true that only when the railway is on strike, people suffer its consequences.
What is a day like when the railway strike ?
Traffic jams, disturbance on the train schedule. Even some employees have to take a day off because of no means of transportation to go to work.
But is it really no other way than strike ? Negotiation without bargaining is the specificity of the french strikes.
"If we don't do strike, they won't hear us", claim the union.
I wonder if at the end, the striker really get what they're demanding.
It's important though to have a strong union in a country. Thanks to the union, today we have the paid holiday and one of the best social security system.
